ICBC now Accepting Class 8 Motorcycle Licence GLP Approved Training
Systems updated to accept Declaration of Completion Forms for ICBC Class 8 approved rider training courses
Starting May 26th, ICBC will be able to accept Declaration of Completion forms for Class 8 Graduated Licencing Program (GLP) approved rider education courses.
ICBC developed the GLP Class 8 approved curriculum in 1998 as an offshoot of the Class 7 approved course that was developed at the same time.
Since the 1998 implementation of GLP, no motorcycle schools have applied for ICBC approval of their Class 8 motorcycle training course.
Recent interest by a motorcycle school to offer GLP approved training has prompted the need to update systems that will allow ICBC to accept Declaration of Completion forms for Class 8 training. Prior to this change, ICBC systems were set up to only accept Class 7 GLP course completions.
6-Month Reduction in Novice Stage (Learner's Class 7 or 8)
ICBC will reduce the GLP Novice stage length by 6 months if a new driver completes a GLP approved course while in the learner stage of the licence Class (7 or 8) in which they took the training. The driver must also be violation and at fault crash-free for the first 18 months in their Novice stage.
ICBC will not reduce the GLP Novice stage length if a new driver completes a GLP approved course after obtaining a Novice driver's licence in the licence class in which they took the training.
The GLP driver training incentive is intended to provide an incentive to take training during the learner stage that may influence future driving and/or riding behaviour.
